I wrote this prayer in January 2013, and recently came across it. When I wrote it, I remember that it had just flowed out of me...but when I read it this time...I felt that I didn't even know that person anymore. But that's because it wasn't me, but the Spirit of God in me. Due to challenges and struggles in India, I had become a little worn and weary...and the person who wrote this prayer was fresh with the Word of God and the Spirit of God in her heart. I had intended to say the prayer everyday after I wrote it...but of course that never happened. Sometimes growth takes a long time ;) When I started praying this/reading it in the last couple weeks...my days became markedly better. I feel it is packed with truths from God's Word that we are just not going to sit down everyday and look up from multiple places in the Bible. After praying/reading this prayer...I truly feel a shift in my spirit from how I felt before reading it(and sometimes after forcing myself to do it). Maybe it's that I'm reading the prayer...and not able to get distracted with my thoughts(as I sometimes do in prayer), or the fact that it's fairly long and that time allows me to connect with His Spirit long enough that I become saturated through and through...and then of course...it is just that I am reading the living truths that are paraphrased from God's word. Sharper than a double-edged sword...
Heavenly Father,
You are holy, and I know that you are good, regardless of my circumstances or anything I may be facing right now. All glory and fame is yours! The heavens proclaim your glory and the skies declare your splendor. Open my eyes and ears today to behold your greatness, that I will magnify you in my praise in everything at all times. Cleanse me by the blood of Jesus, your Son, my King and friend. Fill me with your comfort and love, that I may freely love and comfort others along the path you have designed for me today. May I come to know you more today than I did yesterday, and may you mold this clay into greater likeness with Christ more and more every day. Prepare me for battle today, helping me put on your full armor to fight against the powers and principalities of darkness in this world and in other realms. Come near to me as I come near to you, and guard my ways against the schemes of the enemy. Thank you for the power of your sons name, that I can simply whisper "Jesus" throughout this day and in any struggles I face, and your power and peace that are at work in me and around me become visible to me as I trust you and see you work in my situation. Help me to keep my focus on the unseen as I set myself apart and operate in this world today for your glory and for an eternal reward. You hold my life in your hands, every second by your design. I trust you, knowing nothing happens without first passing through your hands. Help me to accept that it is just your will and for your glory. Thank you for the peace promised to us by Jesus when he went to be with you, and for the Holy Spirit that is in us and around us, in increasing measure as we ask for wisdom, discernment, and spiritual gifts. Guard my heart and help me to hold every thought captive to Christ Jesus. Heal the brokenness in me as I sit in your presence so that I may fulfill your purpose for me in the short time I have here, that my life may be a pleasing aroma to you, the Most High God. I lay down my life for you to pick it up, knowing I can do nothing without you. Help me to make my life a continuous worship song to your name until I dwell in eternal peace with you, O Lord My God. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
